Imagine
over 300 pinwheels spinning in the wind on our front lawn at Montclair!
The pinwheels were made and decorated in art class. On the back of the
pinwheels are words of peace and harmony.
Pinwheels for Peace is
an art and literacy installation project started in 2005. This year's
celebration was September 21, 2006 -International Day of Peace.
It was amazing to see an entire sea of pinwheels!
Students, parents and teachers enjoyed watching all of the pinwheels twirling in the wind.
Students put a lot of thought an creativity into decorating their pinwheels.
"It
is our hope that through the Pinwheels for Peace project, we can help
our students make a public visual statement about their feelings about
war, peace, tolerance, cooperation, harmony, and unity and let people
know what the next generation is thinking. This is not political."

Montclair is home to 299 emerging artists. Take a look at some of their fabulous art:
Inspired by the story, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr, students created 1,000 Paper Cranes for Peace in celebration of Earth day.

Students recently completed their artistic interpretations of two of our more famous presidents.
Students studied the work of Miró and then rendered their artistic interpretations of his work.
In a study of complimentary colors, students displayed their amazing talents at illustrating birds. Audubon would be proud.
