Hello Montclair Parents and Caregivers!  Today is the first day of our weekly parent letter that goes out every Friday.  We have had a wonderful beginning of school with all of your children.  My theme for our staff this year is “you cannot whistle a symphony – it takes a whole orchestra.”  Our parents are part of that symphony, and we appreciate all you do to get your students to school on time and ready to learn.  Be patient with yourself and them if it’s still a work in progress – transition back to school can take time, especially for our youngest learners as they learn new routines.

Our school calendar has been updated and is on our website – you can find a direct link here:  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rhaaV2Ak4vhE-BMrhn2ybVvHc0yPRODd9WDyL8NABUs/edit?usp=sharing

We have several announcements for Montclair that we would like to share with you:

Thursday, September 1st – Back to School Night, 5:00 – 6:30 pm

During Back to School Night, families can visit their childrens’ classes, meet the teacher, and find out about the learning that will take place this year.   Our specials team, mental health providers, special educators, ELD teachers and administrators will also be available and look forward to visiting with you.  Childcare will be provided for kids ages

PEAK – Parents Educators and Kids Organization – First “Re-Start” Meeting September 14th

We are re-starting our parent/teacher/student organization now that COVID is in the rear view mirror.  Devin Lopez, who also works for Montclair, is going to be one Co-President.  We are looking for the following positions:  PEAK Co-President, PEAK Treasurer.  Please join us in the Pavillion on the playground for our first meeting of the year on Wednesday, September 14th at 3:30 – 4:30pm.  Kids can play on the playground during the meeting.

Fall Festival/Movie Night – Canceled for 2022-2023

As we come out of COVID, we are slowly getting back to school-wide events.  We have decided to focus our efforts this fall on our Back to School Night (September 1st) and our Mask Parade (October 31st).   We hope to bring back our traditional Fall Festival community event next year once we have re-started our PEAK Group with full membership!  I know this is disappointing to many families, however, be assured that our traditions of Mask Parade, Winterfest, and International Fest will still take place in full force this year.

School Lunch:

If you have not done so already, please complete your school lunch form at https://www.myschoolapps.com/   All DPS families must complete this online form every year regardless of income or qualification.  From our Cafeteria Manager, Narisarra Penvari:  We are a pork and peanut-free school.  Be assured that EVERYTHING on the menu is pork and peanut free for our community.

Look for this weekly communication every Friday during the school year.  We send out via ClassDojo to your mobile device and SchoolMessenger to email.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Be well,

Susan and AJ
