Our students learn through exciting, interesting and enriching experiences! We embrace our diversity and value equity. The Montclair community strives together for a common cause — the academic growth and social-emotional health of our students. Check us out!

In grades K – 2, we use the science of reading through Heggerty Phonics to teach foundational reading skills to our youngest learners and Benchmark Advance and Benchmark Adelante for comprehensive English and Spanish Reading/Language Arts.

In grade 3 – 5, we utilize small group reading instruction targeted at what students need and literature groups for more in depth studies and critical thinking. We use the Expeditionary Learning curriculum for whole class instruction. This curriculum is built around authentic, worthy texts that give students the opportunity to dig deeply into academic topics that matter and help them make connections between their academic learning and the real world.

Bridges Math

Bridges in Mathematics is a comprehensive K-5 curriculum endorsed by DPS and aligned to the Common Core State Standards. The curriculum focuses on developing student’s deep understanding of mathematical concepts, proficiency with key skills and ability to solve complex and novel problems. Bridges blends direct instruction, structured investigation, and open exploration to tap into the strengths of all learners by presenting material that is as linguistically, visually and kinesthetically rich as it is mathematically powerful.

Montclair is home to top-notch academics, including a dedicated STEAM program, plus performing arts with music, dance and theater

Gifted & Talented

We are proud of our diversity and our talent pool is representative of our student population. We utilize the district Math Specialist to provide and develop advanced math practices to support the needs of students who exceed grade level math. Our students participate in monthly field trips related to the curriculum to create “real world” learning experiences. Affective needs are addressed through a social-emotional learning curriculum daily. Instruction varies between grade levels. Services include using best practices in Gifted Education through depth and complexity for rigor.

Visit the DPS website for additional information about the district-wide Gifted and Talented Program.

Montclair is a one to one technology school in grades K – 5. Our kindergarten students receive an iPad with educational games and assessment while grades 1 – 5 receive a touch screen Chromebook. The chromebooks stay with the students through each grade level.
