Dear Montclair Community and Prospective Families,

I am honored to serve as the school leader of Montclair School of Academics and Enrichment. Montclair is located in the heart of the Montclair neighborhood in Denver. Montclair Elementary was founded in 1953 and in 2008, became the first Innovation School in the state of Colorado and renamed Montclair School of Academics and Enrichment. Composed of one the most diverse populations in Denver, our school is proud to serve students from all over the world and just around the corner.

At our neighborhood school, we ground our decisions in practices in equity, diversity and inclusion in order to support the growth of each and every student. Our talented team of teachers create lessons grounded in Common Core Standards and tailor instruction to tap into student interests, needs and identities. We provide comprehensive special education, English language acquisition and Gifted and Talented programs that support students with unique learning needs to grow and thrive academically and personally. We implement a school-wide social-emotional learning curriculum (https://changingperspectivesnow.org/) that focuses on age-appropriate activities and discussions to deepen students’ understanding of themselves and others.

The pandemic has brought about unique challenges to stay true to our mission of Enrichment. In a “normal” year, every grade level experiences one guest speaker or field trip each month in order to deepen understanding of content and expand their worldview of what is possible. Every grade level will take one overnight field trip each year, creating stronger bonds with one another and creating memories that will last a lifetime. For 21-22 we have brought back guest speakers from organizations such as the Children’s Museum, Yoga for Kids, and the Mizel Museum. As we adhere to COVID safety guidelines, each grade level is planning at least one outdoor field trip for students to enjoy learning in the Colorado outdoors.

Every day I feel privileged to partner with our wonderful Montclair families as we support one another through this unprecedented era in education. I look forward to continuing our journey together in making Montclair an even more incredible place to learn and thrive.

Be well,
Susan Miller-Curley
