A message from Susan Miller-Curley:

During this time of year, we would like to recognize the rich heritage that all of our families of Hispanic origin bring to our school, community, and life. This year we will be celebrating Cultural Moments during different months.  In September and October, we honor Hispanic Heritage – elevating and celebrating Latinx culture and heritage.  It was when I started as an educator in Houston that I fell in love with the Spanish language and the families at my school from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador…just to name a few. I learned Spanish and do my best to practice every day.  I thank all of you for your grace and patience with me.

A message from AJ Williams:

Our community inside and outside of Montclair elementary school has many diverse and invaluable people to draw knowledge and experience from. We have families from around the world, who have traveled around the world! Montclair would like to ask you for your support to expand our community’s horizons. If you have any feedback or suggestions please feel free to email us at albert_williams@dpak12.net. We welcome all views, ideas, and recommendations.

A Message from Nurse Meg

Hello Montclair Families!

Our district health screening team will be at Montclair next week on Wednesday, October 12th, Thursday, October 13th, and again on Tuesday, October 18th. It is very important that your student(s) attend school these days so that we can screen them for vision, hearing, or dental concerns. If you do not wish for your student to participate in the screenings, please opt them out by contacting me, the Montclair School Nurse. For more details and my contact information please read the Universal Health Screening Parent Letter. Thank you!

Optional student support group

We are excited that a GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance) will be one of Montclair’s student groups this year. This group is student-led and for individuals who are in the LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning) community and their allies. Meetings will be facilitated by our school psychologist, Ms. Ayla, and school counselor Ms. Peguero, and focus on building community and discussing issues that affect all students. Right now, the group is open to all 4th and 5th-grade students who want to join and will be starting the week of October 3rd during the school day. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Ayla at ayla_avant@dpsk12.net or Ms. Peguero at natalie_peguero1@dpsk12.net.
