Hello Montclair Community,
This has been a week of change for all of us here at Montclair, and like you, we are still absorbing the proposed changes for the  2023-2024 School Year. DPS is proposing to consolidate Montclair and Palmer into Montclair for K-5 and Palmer for ECE. This would result in Montclair becoming a Kindergarten-5th elementary and Palmer becoming an ECE center program. The DPS School board will hear public comment on November 14th, then vote on November 17th.  We will send these dates and locations out to you as they approach.
Our hearts and minds are with both the Montclair and Palmer Communities as we re-imagine our ECE and Elementary Schools for our communities.  With Palmer “PRIDE” and Montclair “CARES” it is evident that both schools will do whatever it takes to support our kids.
During times of change, I always go back to the work of William Bridges who wrote a book simply titled “Transitions.”  The book was a favorite of my late father and is once again back on my desk.  He describes transition as “Linus without his blanket,” feeling lost and uncertain.  We encourage you to acknowledge these feelings in yourself, your community and your children.  Just as we did during COVID, our collective value of “Ubuntu” will continue to carry us through to support one another through what is now and what is to come.
Montclair will hold a community meeting at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, November 1st in our auditorium.  It is important even if you feel unaffected by the changes to come and make your voice heard!  There will be School Board Members present.  This is a non-school day for Montclair and also Dia de los Muertos.  For families that cannot make it, I will host a Coffee with the Principal on Friday, November 4th at 10:00 am in the Library.  We hope to see you there!
Be well,

Susan
P.S.  Our regular weekly update will be delivered later today – hope to see you at 2:15 on Monday for our Mask Parade!
